Im aktuellen Economist wird eine weitere Statistik von Hitwise zitiert, die aufzeigen soll, wie populär Social Networking Sites zwischenzeitlich geworden sind:

In Britain search sites overtook sex sites in popularity last October — the first time any other category has come out on top since tracking began, says Hitwise. In America, the proportion of site visits that are pornographic is falling and people are flocking to sites categorised “net communities and chat” — chiefly social-networking sites such as MySpace, Bebo and Facebook. Traffic to such sites is poised to overtake traffic to sex sites in America any day now (see chart).

Es wird dann allerdings noch betont, dass so mancher Sexanbieter oder –nachfrager vielleicht ins Peer-to-Peer-Geschäft eingestiegen ist — was ja einige Second-Life-Besucher/innen schon leidlich erfahren mussten.

Interessant finde ich diese Statistik dennoch, da sie aufzeigt, welche immense Bedeutung sozialen Netzwerken in den USA zukommt. Sie transformieren nachhaltig bekannte Monologstrukturen in dialogische Formen.
